Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) Examination

Kerala Administrative Service (KAS) Exam is conducted by the Kerala Public Service Commission (KPSC) for the recruitment to various government posts of Kerala administrative service (KAS), police service and many others. The examination is administered every year in phases; screening test / preliminary examination; main examination and interview. The finally selected candidates are recommended by KPSC to Government of Kerala for appointment to different administrative posts and services. Selected candidates will be appointed as KAS Officer (Junior Time Scale) Stream-1, Stream-2, Stream-3

Kerala Administrative Service Exam Application Process

  1. Candidates are required to fill up the application form by visiting the official website.

  2. Fill up all the necessary details such as the name, address and other communication details such as phone number and valid email ID.

  3. Provide the details of the educational qualification.

  4. Upload the scanned copies of the passport size photograph & signature in the application form.

  5. The payment of the application fees can be made using a credit card, debit card or net banking.

  6. It is advisable for the applicants to take a printout of the application form for future reference.

Kerala Administrative Service Exam Pattern

The Kerala Public Service Commission will conduct the exam in three stages-
  1. Preliminary Exam
  2. Mains Exam
  3. Personal Interview

Phase I: KAS Preliminary Examination

This phase consists of two papers
Paper-I General Studies
  • Mode of Exam: Objective Type Questions
  • Maximum Marks: 100
  • Medium: English
  • Time: 90 Minutes
Paper-II 

This paper has 3 parts

Part 1. General Studies
  • Mode of Exam: Objective Type Questions
  • Medium: English
  • Maximum Marks: 50
Part 2. Language proficiency Malayalam / Tamil / Kannada
  • Mode of Exam: Objective Type Questions
  • Medium: Malayalam / Tamil / Kannada
  • Maximum Marks: 30
Part 3. Language proficiency English
  • Medium: English
  • Maximum Marks: 20
Time: 90 Minutes for all the three parts in Paper II

Phase II: KAS Main Examination


This stage of KAS Examination consists of three papers. Paper 1, Paper 2 and Paper 3. All papers are offered in English and Malayalam  both languages. All three papers are Descriptive Type. 

Phase III: KAS Interview

Candidates qualified in Phase II of KAS Examination are called for Interview. Maximum Marks allotted for this stage is 30.
