IISER Thiruvananthapuram

Indian Institute of Science Education and Research, Thiruvananthapuram (IISER-TVM) started functioning in 2008 with the aim to provide high quality scientific research and developing a spirit of research across all disciplines.  Before the establishment of IISERs, teaching at the undergraduate level was segregated from research at the graduate level. It was only after the establishment of IISERs that this dichotomy was bridged. IISER's teaching methodology is conducive to modern research which spans across a wide area.  It helps to have basic training in a range of disciplines to succeed in modern research. Accordingly, IISER-TVM BS-MS curriculum is designed to be dominantly interdisciplinary. 

IISER-TVM is an autonomous institution awarding five year BS-MS degree in addition to Ph.D. degrees in Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics, Physics and inter-disciplinary areas. Students are admitted through Kishore Vaigyanik Protsahan Yojna (KVPY), JEE Advanced or IAT (conducted by the institute). 

The first three semesters will consist of core and elective courses specialized in one subject (Biology, Chemistry, Mathematics or Physics). The fourth semester will consist of advanced courses and project work. After the successful completion of comprehensive and project work, the student will continue with research leading to the Ph.D. degree.

IISER Thiruvananthapuram has an active PhD Programme in the areas of Biological Sciences, Chemical Sciences, Mathematical Sciences, Physical Sciences and Interdisciplinary areas. The Institute admitted it’s first batch of doctoral students in August, 2009 and currently has over 150 PhD researchers.

The Indian Institute of Science Education and Research Thiruvanathapuram (IISER-TVM) offers Post Doctoral Programmes to qualified young scientists holding Ph.D. in the areas of Biological, Chemical, Mathematical and Physical Sciences/Engineering/Technology.
