Kerala State Higher Education Council
Kerala State Higher Education Council (KSHEC) gives advice and coordinates the roles of government, universities and other institutions of higher education in Kerala. It evolves new concepts and programmes in higher education.
Responsibilities of KSHEC
The Council has the following general responsibilities and functions:
(a) to render advice to the Government, Universities and other institutions of higher education in the State;
(b) to coordinate the roles of the Government, Universities and apex regulatory agencies in higher education within the State;
(c) to evolve new concepts and programmes in higher education;
(d) to provide common facilities in higher education without impinging upon the autonomy of other institutions of higher education.
Bodies of KSHEC
The Council consists of three bodies namely:
This body consisting of 33 members is responsible for giving guidance to the Council and to evaluate and suggest corrective measures to ensure the proper functioning of the Council.
This is a 35 member high power body chaired by the Minister for Education responsible for taking final decision on all policy matters on behalf of the Council.
This is a 9 member body chaired by the Vice-Chairman of the Council. Apart from the Vice-Chairman, this body will include a full time member secretary, five part-time members, one Vice-Chancellor and the Secretary to Government, Higher Education.
