National Institute of Technology (NIT) Calicut

National Institute of Technology Calicut is a Technical Institution of national importance set up by an Act of parliament (Act 29 of 2007) namely, the National Institute of technology Act 2007, which received the assent of the President of India on 5th June,2007. National Institute of Technology, Calicut was established in 1961 as Regional Engineering College Calicut and was under Kerala University till the  formation of Calicut University. Set in a picturesque landscape at the foothills of the Western Ghats, National Institute of Technology Calicut (NITC) is located about 22 kilometers north-east of Calicut City. 

M. V. Kesava Rao took charge as the first principal of the college. The departments of Architecture and Planning, Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Civil Engineering, Computer Science & Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, and Mathematics were established.

Admission to MTech program is primarily based on scores in the GATE exam, conducted by the IITs. Candidates with valid JAM score are eligible to participate in Centralized Counselling for admission into M. Sc. and M. Sc. (Tech.) programme. The following departments offer  M.Tech. Programmes (2 years - 4 semesters):

MCA Programme in NIT Calicut

Admission to the MCA programme is done through the NIMCET conducted by the NITs. The first NIMCET in 2006 was conducted by NIT Calicut. Faculty from other institutes work as research scholars in NITC under the Quality Improvement Programme (QIP). It is the national coordination centre for the QIP of polytechnic institutes. Master of Computer Applications (MCA) Programme (3 years - 6 semesters).

MBA Programme in NIT Calicut

The applicants should have a valid Common Admission Test (CAT) score for admission to MBA programme. The aspirants shall be ranked based on their performance in group discussions and personal interviews, conducted as a part of selection procedure for admission.

Ph.D Programme in NIT Calicut

Ph.D Programmes are offered in all departments. Four registration schemes are available: full-time(FT), part-time(PT),Internal(IN) and external(EX) registration.
