Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test - KTET

Government of Kerala conducts the Kerala Teachers Eligibility Test (KTET) to select teachers for Category I (Lower Primary classes), Category II (Upper Primary classes) and Category III (High School classes) in various government schools within the state of Kerala. The KTET is divided into four categories as Category I, Category II , Category III & Category IV.

KTET Eligibility Criteria

CATEGORY-I (Lower Primary classes)

  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or other equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised board or university. They must also have a two year Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) [by whatever name known] conducted by a recognised Board.
    OR
    Candidates should have successfully completed their Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or other equivalent examination with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised board or university. They must also have a 2-year Diploma in Elementary Education (by whatever name known), in accordance with NCTE (Recognition Norms and Procedure), Regulations 2002.
    OR
    Candidates should have successfully completed their Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or other equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised board or university and a four year Bachelor of Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
    OR
    Candidates should have successfully completed their Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or other equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised board or university with a two year Diploma in Education (Special Education).

  2. Candidate awaiting the result of the final semester of exam like DEd, Bed etc also are also eligible to apply for K-TET.

  3. Relaxation of qualifying marks to apply for CATEGORY-I (Lower Primary classes)
    There is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently abled categories and a relaxation of 3% for OBC & OEC candidates (as per the Govt. of Kerala norms).

CATEGORY II: (Upper Primary classes)

  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks from recognised university or institution. They must also have a 2 year Diploma in Elementary Education/Trained Teachers’ Certificate (TTC) [by whatever name known] conducted by a recognised board.
    OR
    Candidates should have successfully completed their graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks from recognised university or institution. They must also have a 2 year Bachelor in Education (B.Ed.) from a recognised university.
    OR
    Candidates should have successfully completed their Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or other equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised board or university. They must also possess a 4 year Bachelor in Elementary Education (B.El.Ed.)
    OR
    Candidates should have successfully completed their Higher Secondary/ Senior Secondary or other equivalent examination with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised board or university. They must also have completed 4 year B.A/B.Sc.Ed or B.A. Ed or B.Sc.Ed.

  2. Relaxation of qualifying marks to apply for CATEGORY II: (Upper Primary classes)
    There is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently abled categories and a relaxation of 3% for OBC & OEC candidates (as per the Govt. of Kerala norms).

CATEGORY III (for High School classes)

The test is for HSAs in: (i) Malayalam (ii) English (iii) Hindi (iv) Sanskrit (v) Tamil (vi) Kannada (vii) Arabic (viii) Urdu (ix) Social Science (x) Physical Science (xi) Natural Science and (xii) Mathematics
  1. Candidates should have successfully completed their graduation in any discipline with a minimum of 45% marks from a recognised university or institution. They must also possess a B.Ed. Degree in the subject concerned from a recognised university.

  2. For subjects like Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry, Botany and Zoology, candidates should have successfully completed their master’s degree in the subject concerned with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT.

  3. For subjects like Botany and Zoology, candidates should have successfully completed their master’s degree in Life Science with a minimum of 50% marks from a recognised Regional Institutes of Education sponsored by NCERT.
N.B.: Candidates, who have acquired Diploma/Degree in teaching in any subject and are approved by Universities/NCTE/Board of Examinations/Govt. of Kerala, are eligible to apply for K-TET III. They will have to produce the equivalency certificate as recognized by any of the Universities in Kerala/ Government of Kerala.
  1. Candidates who have acquired their qualifications through recognized correspondence courses/ Open universities should obtain and furnish certificates of recognition and equivalency from any one of the Universities in Kerala.

  2. Relaxation of qualifying marks to apply for CATEGORY III (for High School classes)
    There is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently abled categories and a relaxation of 3% for OBC & OEC candidates (as per the Govt. of Kerala norms).

CATEGORY- IV

The category – IV is for-
Language teachers in Arabic, Hindi, Sanskrit, Urdu (up to Upper Primary level), Specialist teachers and Physical Education teachers (up to High School level)

For teachers of Art Education and Craft Education.
  1. Candidates, who have acquired Certificate/ Diploma/ Degree in teaching in any subject, and are approved by Universities/NCTE/ Board of Examinations/ Government of Kerala, are eligible to apply for K-TET-IV.

  2.  Relaxation of qualifying marks to apply for CATEGORY IV
    There is a relaxation of 5% for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Differently abled categories and a relaxation of 3% for OBC & OEC candidates (as per the Govt. of Kerala norms). The minimum requirement of a pass in second class for the qualifying examination shall not be applicable in such cases.

KTET Application Process

Candidates are required to apply online by visiting the official website https://ktet.kerala.gov.in/  Fill up all the information with appropriate details and upload the scanned copies of the passport size photograph of 200 pixels height & 150 pixels width and having the size of 20 to 30 kb in jpeg format. Get a printout of the application form and keep it for future reference.
