Veterinary Education in Kerala

Veterinary education is always a sought after career among students in Kerala. Candidates are selected on the basis of their marks in All India Pre-Veterinary Test (AIPVT) conducted every year by Veterinary Council of India in the month of May.

To pursue veterinary education in Kerala, candidates must have passed 10+2 examination with Biology/Biotechnology, Chemistry, Physics and English as main subjects. They can only apply if they have the certificate of permanent residence of Kerala.

Veterinary education is one of the interesting fields of education in science. It is involved with the teaching of treating and curing diseases of birds and animals, the basic principle of which is very similar to that of treating humans. With the prospects of veterinary medicine looking bright in India there are more and more people opting for veterinary medicine. Duties of a vet include examining animals and treating wounds, performing surgeries, advising animal owners about care, and prescribing medications.

The minimum age of candidates should be 17 years and the maximum age of candidates should be 25 years. For candidates under SC, ST and OBC categories, a relaxation of age by a maximum 5 years will be there.

While most veterinarians have medical offices, many who work on animals other than domestic pets, such as farm animals, travel to treat their patients on site.
